I think you misread a request for an equation to solve a particular
problem as a request for course in algebraic theory starting at first
principles along with a discussion of the methods of arriving at an
optimal solution set.
As they say, know your customer. From what I've seen of the Sundai-SIG
members in that past, they are happiest when given a project to implement
and learning by doing.
