Subject: SCOUG-SundialSIG: Beginning formulas

Content Type: text/plain

Oh, great, first the silver-tongue devil Peter blindsides me with
macros and then Steven responds with an option using the formula
bar. I'm still sitting on formulas, wondering if I am getting any
where near to what prompted the request in the first place, and
before you know it we have jumped zip, zap, zeppity into REXX
programming.

It's not that I mind. I don't. If this is some sort of dance of
"you lead, I follow", then I should tell you I am somewhat slow in
picking up new steps. Knowing I am a newbie to MESA, says that
some sort of a gap exists between my experience with it and those
with more advanced skills. Maybe it's time to do a level set take
those with just a basic skill set to an intermediate and from
there to an advance.

Nothing dictates that we cannot have multiple threads active in
this discussion that we can classify as basic, intermediate, and
advanced. This allows those who have already transitioned to the
next level to assist others in doing likewise. Even in using
multiple threads (and threads within threads) we should end up
with a composite, a single document that provides the MESA user
with a step-by-step means of getting from here to there.

Now frankly, Peter, Steven's response is probably adequate, the
best you are going to get with the current version of MESA. I've
run the mouse over the icons in the formula bar and it makes sense
to me. However, if you have created some macros that might have a
more general applicability, I'm sure some others would welcome the
opportunity to share them as well as their source and the method
for preparing it.

Like Tony Butka I see no reason not to place the emphasis on
having fun while ending up the smarter (and wiser) for it. It
sounds to me like both Steven and Peter have something to
contribute here. I know they like having fun also.
