Sounds to me like you're doing it right, John. The very first version
of my own investment system was done as a spreadsheet, and I used
something called "regression" to test various methods of investing.
Spreadsheets are great for developing ideas because you constantly see
what you are creating. And Mesa 2 has excellent graphics for charting
and further visualizing.
