Sometimes processes are initiated that sustain
themselves productively without leader intervention.
On the other hand, I understand your point. I had a
number of concerns that were not taken up either,
leaving me to wonder if they were too easily
understood (via rtfm) to be worthy of comment. I
will paste the previous concerns again below my
signature block.

The size issue that you started with reminded me of
my confusion with the terminology in MESA and the
reasons for it were either limiting or "empowering"
in that a spreadsheet in MESA is actually a
collection of potentially a large number of
individual pages, each of which would be considered
a spreadsheet in the paper and pencil world and in
Excel (e.g. v5.1)

Is this kind of question about the semantics of MESA
terminology over the edge?

TIA,

Mark Henigan

I have had difficulty with something that is probably
elementary, copying a formula in relative form across
a range of cells.

The idea is that I would like to be able, for
instance, in any given column, to add the row 2 and
row 3 values and have the sum appear in row 4 of that
column simply by dragging the formula from a
representative column. I have edited formulas on the
status line extensively in Excel. However, the
"inheritance" of characteristics in MESA seems to be
much different from what seem like related concepts
in Excel.

I found this easy to do in Excel but could never get
comfortable enough with 1-2-3 to get it to work.

I think this is complicated by creating the first sum
by selecting cells with the pointer. Can this be done
with the gui? Or, does it have to be written it out
on the status line? If the latter, how is it done in
MESA?

Also, from the point of view of writing formulas, what
are the ways to take advantage of the "layers." I
still think of a single page when I hear spreadsheet,
each "layer" sounding like a separate page. Isn't
leveraging the use of formulas one advantage of having
layers in a spreadsheet and wreaking linguistic havoc?
