SCOUG OS/2 For You - July 1998

V Communications will be showing us how System Commander makes it easier to use several operating systems on one PC. You might want to reread Bob Ottke's product overview from the April '98 newsletter (http://www.scoug.com/os24u/1998/scoug804.2.syscommander.html).

After the presentation, we'll have Q&A, the raffle, and two of our SIGs. We'll also be going to lunch afterwards, but we'll be trying a new place.

General Interest Group - will discuss FixPak 7. They'll also look at updating Netscape to the latest version and adding MMOS2 and Win 3.1 plugins (from the Indelible Blue web site) to it. Updates to Warp 4 such as Java 1.1.6 and TCP/IP 4.02t may also be covered.

Programming SIG - will continue their discussion, and begin implementation, of the virtual name space for our FTP server. By virtualizing directory and file names, they will add an additional level of security and configurability to the server.

Internet SIG - will look at JChat, a new Java-based chat program for use on the Internet. They'll also continue discussions of encryption and information searching, and, of course, the latest internet news.

OS/2 Help Desk - will feature tips and procedures for uninstalling FixPaks, system components and applications. Volunteers will help you resolve your difficulties with problematic hardware and software.

Networking SIG - will be setting-up network connectivity to use one peer client as a dial-up gateway via an ISP to the Internet that all other peer clients on the network can utilitize.
