SCOUG OS/2 For You - July 1998

Well, it's official! There will be a SCOUG Open House on September 19 to celebrate our fifth anniversary. In June, the SCOUG board of directors approved the plan for this event. This means you can look forward to a special day full of games, contests (with prizes), raffle, cake, food and, oh yes, presentations and vendors with lots of OS/2-related information and products. While we haven't yet completely settled on an appropriate pricing scheme (suggestions included a hierarchical structure with plutonium, californium, nobelium and lutetium benefits levels), the rumor is it will be free to our members, families, friends, and other guests.

You are probably asking yourself: this all sounds great, but how does an event this complex, requiring a good deal of planning, evolve from the drawing board to reality? Well, the answer is: it can only happen with assistance and hard work from club volunteers who are willing to help work out the details and provide the material for the various events that will make the Open House a success.

And I'm sure that your next question will be: How can I help?

That, too is easy to answer. Just let Rollin, Carla or me know that you are interested (SIG leaders are already signed up) and we will make sure you have something to do. We especially need presenters, set-up and take-down crews, and lots of good ideas. To keep up to date on the committee's plans and progress you can add yourself to the listserv

and get all the details as they develop, including time and place of each committee meeting.

This should be an exciting day and hopefully will be the SCOUG event of the year. So let's all help to make it a big success.
