Updates from last month's column:

The WarpZilla team has updated Mozilla (the open-source Web browser) to version 0.9.2 as of 06/29/2001. Go to ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9.2/. Notable improvements are a fix for image corruption problems and some font improvements.

An EMX build of Mozilla 0.9PRE has been released as of 06/14/2001. It contains the new features recently checked into Mozilla, including the new caching algorithm, libprOn, and more. Go to http://anduin.net/mozilla/. NOTES:

  1. The build is compressed into the .RAR format.
  2. According to Steve Wendt, it is not as stable as the versions available from ftp.mozilla.org.

UPS Monitor has been updated as of 06/02/2001. It will monitor the status of an APC UPS, and provide shutdown services to the operating system. Go to http://home.att.net/~ASchw/upsmonitor.html; it lists the supported UPS's.

Ogg Vorbis has been ported to OS/2 as of 05/29/2001. It is an audio compression format similar to MP3, but free of patented algorithms and is fully open source. Go to http://silk.apana.org.au/vorbis/.

For those of you who use eBay: eBayWatch/2 version 0.10k is now available. As the name implies, it is an eBay auction management tool. Go to http://www.eclipse.net/~knkrchnr/.

LBMix version 0.07a was released as of 06/22/2001. It is a universal mixer for sound cards with the IOCTL90 API. Go to http://www.podolsk.ru/~boga/OS2Programs.html.

cdrecord version 1.11a04 is now available as of 06/20/2001. This has the capability of burning single-session, multi-session, or audio CD's. Use search key cdrtools on Hobbes. An older version (1.10a15 as of 02/27/2001) is at http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/cdrecord/cdrecordmain.htm.

Lotus has released the Domino Server version 5.0.8 update for OS/2. Go to http://www.notes.net/qmrdown.nsf/QMRWelcome.

The "in-development" version of Apache 2.0 has been updated as of 06/29/2001, for those who want to try out the new features. This version offers big performance improvements due to multi-threading and elimination of some emx dependencies. NOTE: REXX CGI scripts don't work currently. This month's new listings - Drivers:

A company called Lava now has an OS/2 parallel port driver that works with their Parallel-PCI adapter card. The driver is a replacement for the stock parallel-port driver and supports up to 3 ports. Go to http://www.lavalink.com/.

The P6/K7 MTRR managment package has been updated as of 06/23/2001 to version 0.06b. This is a device driver that can manage MTRR's (Memory Type Range Registers) of Intel P6 & AMD K7 series processors. It includes VFBWC.EXE, which uses MTRR write-combining for the video frame buffer; this can oftem improve graphic performance, including DIVE. Dawicontrol has released version 4.22 of their SCSI drivers as of 05/07/2001. Go to http://www.dawicontrol.com/english/html/framee.htm.

Infrared drivers and tools for IBM Thinkpad series 770, 600, and newer are now available as of 05/04/2001. It includes IrCOMM support for most current ThinkPad models, a Ringtone Manager, and a Phonebook Manager for GSM phones attached through the IrDA port. Use search key irdd on Hobbes.

Daniela Engert has released as of 06/12/2001 DaniS506 version 1.3.9 and DaniATAPI version 0.3.3. Use search keys danis & dania on Hobbes, respectively.

The BIOS for LSI Logic (Symbios) SCSI adapters has been updated to version 4.19 as of 05/17/2001. Go to http://www.lsilogic.com/support/support+drivers/scsi/bios.html.

IBM has updated IBM1S506.ADD as of approximately 06/14/2001. The /UDMA:x parameter has been added that allows limiting the highest transfer mode. The README has further details. Go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/Driver+Profile+Web/IDEDASD.EXE?Ope nDocument.

IBM has added support for the new IBM NetVista A40 series of PC's as of 06/11/2001. Go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/WebCat?OpenView; scroll down to "Systems" and click on it; then click on the NetVista link.

Tonigy version 1.3 has been released as of 06/25/2001. It allows you to access tracks of audio, video, and data CD's as ordinary files. Audio tracks are represented as .WAV and .RAW files, which can be played, copied, or encoded from CD directly. Video tracks are represented as .MPG files, which can be used for viewing video by MPEG players that do not support Video CD. You can copy these .MPG files to a hard disk. ISO tracks of data CD's are represented as ISO files. A new feature is the ability to access files of CD-I disks. If you have CD-I video disks, you can play them via the Tonigy file system. IBM has updated as of 05/31/2001 the kernels for Warp 4, Convenience Pack, Warp Server for e-Business, and Convenience Pack for WSeB. Also updated was SES (security) and a dump formatter. Go to ftp://ftp.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/update-kernels/.

If you are using the IBM-branded version of Mozilla that is only available thru Software Choice, there is now a performance fix available. as of 06/28/2001. Go to ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/os2web/ic30795.zip.

XWorkplace, which was part of Gary Granat's series last year on Seeking Ways to Get Rid of System Bloat, has been updated to version 0.9.12 as of 06/03/2001. Go to http://www.xworkplace.org/proj_xwp.html. It requires WarpIn (see below).

WarpIn, which was also part of Gary Granat's series last year on Seeking Ways to Get Rid of System Bloat (see http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2000/scoug008.xworkplace.html), has been updated to version 0.9.12 as of 06/03/2001. Go to http://www.xworkplace.org/proj_warpin.html.

SNES9X, the Super Nintendo emulator that was demoed by Jerry Rash at the March 2001 SCOUG meeting, has been updated to release 9 as of 06/03/2001. Go to http://emuos2.netlabs.org/.

InCharge, the financial management system, has been updated to version 1.02.72 as of 06/03/2001. Go to http://www.spitfiresoftware.com/.

GSView version 4.0 has been released as of 06/02/2001. It is a graphical document viewer that uses Ghostscript as its' display engine for generating Acrobat (.PDF) documents. Go to http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/.

PsiConv/PM version 1.02 has been released as of 06/01/2001. It is a front-end for the PsiConv utility that lets you convert text and graphics files from your Psion PDA to common PC file formats. Go to http://os2.mensys.nl/psion/psion3.html.

Psion OS/2 utilities version 1.1 has been released as of 06/23/2001. They are text-mode FTP-like utilities for the Psion handhelds. There is now a NetDrive plug-in available also. Go to ftp://cbs-edu.chel.su/pub/Porro/Psion/.

WarpGoGo beta 2 has been released. It is a MP3 encoder for OS/2. Go to http://www.ed2.vov.ru/. NOTE: The web page is in Russian, but the program is in English.

ThirdEye version 1.0.2 has been released as of 05/28/2001. It is a universal digital camera manipulation program that supports cameras from Agfa, Olympus, Epson, Nikon, Sanyo, HP, and Konica. Go to http://os2.ru/projects/thirdeye/index.phtml.en.

Warp CD-Copy version 2.0 Release Candidate #2 has been released as of 06/10/2001. It is a PM-based audio CD grabber with a built-in MP3 encoder. Go to http://www.asua.org.pl/projects/wcdda/.

WarpMedia beta 6 has been released as of 06/08/2001. It is a PM-based media player that can play MPEG-1 audio/video, DivX audio/video and MP3 audio. It is capable of displaying video in a PM window, in full-screen mode, or using TV-out. It also features "skin" support. Go to ftp://sdg.os2.nu/pub/warpmedia/testcase/.

CrossTec has released NetOp for OS/2 version 6.5. It is a remote-control program that offers fast, secure, and stable cross-platform remote control, file transfer, and chat capabilities with other OS/2 users as well as any Windows or network DOS NetOp module. Moneydance 3.1 has been released as of 06/08/2001. It is a personal finance manager written completely in Java. It includes transaction auto-completion, graphing, reporting, a reconciliation tool, running cleared vs. uncleared balances, transaction sorting, double-entry, multiple currencies, multiple accounts, and much more. CVS version 1.11 has been ported to OS/2 as of 06/05/2001. This is a very useful tool for projects with multiple developers. Use search key cvs on Hobbes.

CD Boot/2 version 1.50 has been released as of 06/20/2001. This is a utility to enhance bootable OS/2 CD-ROMs so that when the CD is inserted into the drive, a menu is displayed allowing you to continue booting from the removeable media, or timing out to the hard drive instead. IBM has released FixPak 8 for DB2 version 6.1 as of 05/09/2001, and FixPak 3 for DB2 version 7 as of 05/04/2001. SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) is now at version 1.0.5 as of 06/16/2001. It provides drivers for many scanners. Go to http://users.bigpond.net.au/psmedley/sane/.

Dialer/2 version 1.9 beta 6 has been released. This is a nice phone dialer with a phone book and auto-dial. Go to http://os2.ru/projects/dialer/index.phtml.en.

Skins Collection 3.5 for PM123 is now available. It adds 10 new skins to Skins Collection III, which includes a skin preview program, as well as visual plug-ins. Go to http://www.os2.cz/index.php3?v=skins.

StWTV, a TV application for the WinTV/PCI card, has been updated to version 1.14 as of 06/12/2001. This is the last version to be released; it has been replaced by StTV version 0.01, which was released on 06/13/2001. os2unix version 1.6 has been released as of 06/03/2001. With this tool, you can easily compile software for OS/2 from Linux source code, without needing autoconf. Go to http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~vtgf3mpr/os2unix/os2unix.htm.

PMView version 2.30 has been released as of 06/25/2001. There are 2 new features, including playback of animated .GIF files, and 7 bug fixes. Go to http://www.pmview.com/os2/pmview2000v230os2.zip.

Guiffy version 2.1 has been released as of 06/19/2001. It is a file compare / merge (diff-like) tool with a GUI implemented in Java. Go to http://www.guiffy.com. FYI: The developer is a locally-based company (Escondido).
