Updates from last month's column:

A port of the Linux BTTV driver (for BT8X8 TV cards) has been released as of 01/23/2002 (build 719). A small radio application is included. Go to http://www.nord-com.net/s.milcke/bttv_en.htm. NOTE: This should be considered a beta driver.

StHWMon version 0.18B has been updated as of 01/14/2002. It is a temperature/fan/voltage monitor for motherboards with the VIA_82C686 chip. It can shut down OS/2 and do an APM power-off if a failure occurs. Go to http://www.nord-com.net/s.milcke/hwmon_en.htm. NOTE: It requires WarpIn to install.

DFSee, which was demoed at the June 2001 SCOUG meeting, has been updated to version 4.14 as of 01/29/2002. It is a FDISK, display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It now includes some JFS and LVM support. Go to http://www.fsys.demon.nl/dfsee.htm. NOTE: DFSee is now shareware. For information on using DFSee, take a look at the tutorial written by Tony Butka.

Amouse version 2.0 beta has been updated as of 01/05/2002. It is a scroll mouse device driver that works better on some wheel mice than IBM's driver. There is also a widget for XCenter available now. Go to http://home.t-online.de/home/klaus.breining/sw_ms2en.htm.

Lynx version 2.85dev7 has been released as of 01/16/2002. This is a text-mode WWW browser that was reviewed last summer by Dallas Legan. Use search key lynx on Hobbes.

Matrox has released as of 01/02/2002 version 2.55 of their video card BIOS updates for the G200, G400, G450, and G550 series. Go to http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/bios/home2.cfm.

Various versions of UPS Monitor were released as of 01/26/2002. Go to http://home.att.net/~ASchw/upsmonitor.html to see if your UPS is supported, and if so, to download. Or, you can use search key upsmon on Hobbes.

A driver for the C-Media 8738 audio chip has been released as of 01/22/2002. Use search key cmedia on Hobbes. NOTE: This is considered a beta version.


This month's new listings - Drivers:

SciTech Display Doctor beta 45 has been released as of 01/19/2002. This update of the universal display driver includes support for AGP FastWrite, Matrox G550, and more. IBM has updated as of 01/17/2002 the video driver for the Thinkpad T2x series. Go to http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-4KP37K.html.

Matrox has updated their video drivers to version 2.58 as of 01/17/2002. This supports video cards from the Millenium to the G450 series. Go to http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/files/os2_258.cfm.

IBM has updated as of 12/13/2001 the drivers for the Crystal Audio series of sound cards. IBM has updated as of 12/04/2001 the audio driver for the YMF754 chipset. Go to http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/free/mme/ymf754.exe.

Analog Devices AD188x (SoundMax) audio driver version 3.0.7 has been posted to Hobbes as of 01/12/2002. Use search key ad188xos2.

IBM has released as of 12/12/2001 a driver for the CT5880 audio chipset, which works with the SoundBlaster PCI cards. HOWEVER: You need to have a current Software Choice subscription to download. Go to http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/swc/ct5880.exe.

IBM has released as of 12/12/2001 the Streaming LPR Port Driver. HOWEVER: You need to have a current Software Choice subscription to download. Go to http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/swc/slpr.exe.

IBM has released as of 01/08/2002 a Gigabit Ethernet (Fiber) Adapter driver which provides OS/2 support for selected Intel Gigabit Ethernet chipsets (82542GC, 82543GC, & 82544GC). OS/2 Gigabit Ethernet support is limited to adapters designed for Fiber (1000Base-SX) connection. HOWEVER: You need to have a current Software Choice subscription to download. IBM has updated as of 01/21/2002 the printer drivers for PostScript, ink-jets, laserjets, and plotters to version 30.754. Go to ftp://ftp.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/printpak/en/.

JJSCDROM driver has updated as of 01/14/2002. This is an alternative to IBM's OS2CDROM.DMD, which fixes some problems and adds a few features. Use search key jjscd on Hobbes.

DaniATAPI version 0.3.6 was released as of 01/10/2002. Use search key dania on Hobbes.

DaniS506 version 1.4.0 was released as of 01/16/2002. Use search key danis on Hobbes.

A modified version of IBM's USBMSD.ADD, with support for the Olympus C-1 digital camera, has been released as of 01/15/2002. Use search key c1msd on Hobbes.


This month's new listings - Applications:

IBM has updated LVM (Logical Volume Manager) as of 01/15/2002 to the same level as the LVM which will be in Convenience Pak 2. Go to http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/free/lvmupdt.exe.

IBM has updated Theseus 4 as of 01/29/2002 to support Convenience Pak 2. It is a kernel debugging tool. Go to ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/v4.5warp/theseus4/thes4001.exe. NOTE: Theseus 4 works only with Convenience Pak 1 & 2 & eComStation; for older versions of OS/2, use Theseus 3, which is at ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/v4warp/theseus3/thes3003.exe.

IBM has updated the IBM Web Browser for OS/2 to version 1.1 as of 01/31/2002. This is the IBM version of Mozilla that was demonstrated by Dave Watson at the July 2001 SCOUG general meeting. HOWEVER: You must be a current subscriber to Software Choice to download. Go to http://service.boulder.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/catalog.htm.

IBM has updated TCP/IP Version 4.3 for OS/2 as of 01/31/2002. HOWEVER: You must be a current subscriber to Software Choice to download. Go to http://service.boulder.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/catalog.htm.

IBM has updated the HTTP Server for OS/2 as of 01/31/2002. This is a Web server based on Apache. It provides support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) using 128-bit encryption, and has an interface to WebSphere Application Server 3.02. HOWEVER: You must be a current subscriber to Software Choice for Warp Server for e-Business to download. Go to http://service.boulder.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/catalog.htm#resfeatwseb.

Lotus has released Domino Server updates for OS/2 to versions 4.6.7a and 5.0.9a. Go to http://www.notes.net/qmrdown.nsf/QMRWelcome.

GOGO version 3.09 has been released as of 01/20/2002. This is a very fast MP3 encoder based on LAME. Use search key gogo on Hobbes. NOTE: you need the EMX run-time to use this.

Sound Galaxy Pro16 Mixer has been released as of 01/19/2002. It is a mixer application for Sound Galaxy Pro16 sound cards with full Pascal source. To compile the source you will need Virtual Pascal and the OS/2 Developer's Toolkit. Look for SGPMIX.ZIP on Hobbes.

CWAudio classes version 0.1.0 have been released as of 12/20/2001. These classes are for seamless integration of the MMIO procedures for MP3 and OGG files; after installation, OGG and MP3 files are treated the same way by the WPS as the other audio files, with icons and menus. Go to http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/cwaudio/cwaudiomain.htm. <{>MMIOProc codecs for MP3 and Ogg Vorbis have been updated as of 01/10/2002 to version 0.3.1 and 0.1.1, respectively. With these codecs, the OS/2 multimedia system is able to play (and convert to WAV format) MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files without any additional software. Ogg Vorbis version 1.0rc3 was released as of 01/02/2002. It is an audio compression format similar to MP3, but free of patented algorithms and is fully open source. Go to http://silk.apana.org.au/vorbis/.

OggEncPM version 0.9.0 has been released. This is a basic front-end for the Ogg Vorbis encoder version 1.0rc3 (see above). Go to http://silk.apana.org.au/vorbis/.

jOggPlayer version 1.1.1 was released as of 01/06/2002. This is an open-source GUI Java Ogg Vorbis player. Go to http://www.webarts.bc.ca/joggplayer/.

Gramofile version 1.6 has been released as of 12/02/2001. This can be used to clean WAV files of clicks and ticks prior to burning them to CD. It also supports track splitting. Go to http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/gramofile/gramofilemain.htm.

Normalize version 0.7 has been ported to OS/2 as of 01/19/2002. It is an overly complicated tool for adjusting the volume of .WAV files to a standard volume level. This is useful for things like creating MP3 mixes, where different recording levels on different albums can cause the volume to vary greatly from song to song. Use search key normal on Hobbes.

DTape beta 8 has been released. It is an OS/2 PM program which provides the facilities to record and replay digital audio directly to/from disk (a digital tape recorder). Features include peak level monitoring and unlimited .WAV file sizes (up to 4GB). Go to http://home.clara.net/orac/os2.htm#dtape.

OdinTool version 0.03 is now available as of 01/08/2002. This allows you to install Odin ZIP files comfortably, and keep configuration settings. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odinusers/files/.

AiR-BOOT version 0.27b has been released as of 01/29/2002. This is a multi-boot partition loader with some extra features, including colored "Award-like" SETUP, virus protection, Linux kernel support, and more. Go to http://kiewitz.ath.cx/KiewitzSoft/.

XSane version 0.83 has been released as of 01/10/2002. This is a front-end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) that requires XFree86/OS2. Go to http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/xsane-os2.htm.

PCI+AGP Bus Sniffer version 0.44 was released as of 01/09/2002. This tool shows PCI, AGP, and CardBus device information, has a huge database of known vendors and devices, and can tell what IRQ's are supported by which slot. Use search key pci on Hobbes.

DSK4PM version 4.22 has been released as of 01/07/2002. This is a PM utility to build diskettes from IBM's *.DSK images. Go to http://dvalot.free.fr/emtcopy.htm.

HOUSE/2 version 2.1 has been released as of 01/03/2002. This is designed for the X10 home automation controllers CM11x/CM11/CM12U allowing timer and macro event programming to control lights or appliances. Go to http://home.att.net/~ASchw/house2.html.

The RAR archiver has been updated to version 3.00 beta 1 as of 01/20/2002. This is a command-line compression utilitiy, with tight general and multimedia compression, recovery record option management of non-RAR archives, RCVT (aRchive ConVersion Tool), and more. Go to http://www.rarsoft.com.

Guiffy version 3.7 has been released as of 01/15/2002. It is a file compare / merge (diff-like) tool with a GUI implemented in Java. Go to http://www.guiffy.com/. NOTE: The vendor is locally-based in Escondido and will be our Feb. 16, 2002 SCOUG general meeting presenter.

Innotek has released Macromedia Flash version 5. This version supports Netscape 2.02, 4.61, IBM Web Browser from Software Choice, and Mozilla. It is now shareware and can be purchased from Mensys. Go to http://www.innotek.de/products/flash/.

Apache version 1.3.23, the premier web server of the Internet, has been released as of 01/25/2002. Go to http://apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/os2/.

PnP Bios Resource Lister version 0.14 has been released as of 01/25/2002. This tool lists PnP information from the BIOS. Use search key pnp on Hobbes.

GSView version 4.12 beta has been released as of 01/24/2002. It is a graphical document viewer that uses Ghostscript as its' display engine. Go to http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/.

cdrdao version 1.1.6-pre1 fix2 has been released as of 01/21/2002. It is a free CD-R/RW writing program for Disk At Once mode. Use search key cdrdao on Hobbes.
