Updates from last month's column:

SmartSVN version 5.0.3 has been released as of 01/15/2009. This is a Java Subversion GUI client, with features like built-in File Compare/Merge, Change Report or Tag and Branch handling, etc. It requires Java 1.4.1 or higher. Go to http://www.syntevo.com/smartsvn/.

WPIView version 1.1 alpha 3 has been released as of 01/15/2009. This is a utility to view, install, and extract WarpIN packages. Go to http://members.aon.at/herwig.bauernfeind/wpiview/.

Moneydance 2008 build 631 has been released as of 01/12/2009. It is a personal finance manager written completely in Java. It includes transaction auto-completion, graphing, reporting, a reconciliation tool, running cleared vs. uncleared balances, transaction sorting, double- entry, multiple currencies, multiple accounts, and much more. lzip version 1.4 has been released as of 01/25/2009. This is a lossless file compressor that is almost as fast as gzip, and compresses better than bzip2. Use search key lzip on Hobbes.

PHPMyAdmin version 3.1.2 has been released as of 01/19/2009. This is a set of PHP scripts to administer MySQL over the Web. Go to http://phpmyadmin.sourceforge.net/.

From this month's "Paul Smedley has been busy" file:

  • UniAud32 has been updated as of 1/25/2009. The driver code has been updated to ALSA 1.0.19, and features better support for HDA than earlier versions of UniAud; eventually it will become UniAud version 2.0. According to Steve Wendt, early reports suggest big improvements on some HDA chipsets, but also some that don't work as well as the previous test release (1.9.11). This month's new listings - Applications:

Whois version 4.7.30 has been released as of 01/17/2009. This is a new whois (RFC 954) client that is intelligent and can automatically select the appropriate whois server for most queries. Use search key whois on Hobbes.

PMRaw version 2.2 has been released as of 01/15/2009. This is a graphical front-end to DCRaw, which allows you to display images from digital cameras in RAW format, and convert them to BMP or JPG. Use search key pmraw on Hobbes. More info is at http://os2.zworks.de/PMRaw/eng/.

USBcfg version 0.71 has been released as of 01/12/2009. This application is designed to help (re)configure USB drivers and devices. It doesn't install USB drivers; it helps sort out driver parameters. Use search key usbcfg on Hobbes.

The Java Image Browser Sorter is at version 2.4.0 as of 01/11/2009. This program requires Java 1.4. Go to http://img-browse-sort.sourceforge.net/.

GenINI version 1.0 has been released as of 01/10/2009. This is a pair of programs to back up OS/2 INI files in human-readable form, and to restore an INI file from the human-readable form. GenINI is freeware and open-source. Go to http://www.pmoylan.org/pages/os2/genini.html.

eCSClamAV version 1.0.0 has been released as of 01/25/2009. This is a GUI for the ClamAV anti-virus package. Go to http://www.warp-ecs-owl.de/Peter_eCSClamAV.html.

SMPlayer version 0.5.21 has been updated as of 01/23/2009. This is a GUI front-end for MPlayer, based on the QT graphics toolkit. Go to ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/; eventually it should be moved to ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/smplayer/.

JGraphpad version 6.0.6.1 has been released as of 01/22/2009. This is a Java-based powerful, free diagram editor that allows you to create flow charts, maps, UML diagrams, and more. Go to http://www.jgraph.com/jgraphpad.html.

IPConfigPM version 1.2 has been released as of 02/01/2009. This is a graphical interface for changing the I/P address, domain name, and DNS servers. Use search key IpConfigPM on Hobbes.

Samba version 3.0.33 has been released as of 01/29/2009. According to Steve Wendt, it is apparently also known as "version 1.0.x for eComStation". Provided are both the Samba server, and a client plugin for the NetDrive filesystem, which supports 64-bit file I/O with NDFS 3.0 or higher. It allows you to mount SMB or CIFS shares on OS/2 without the need of NetBIOS (IBM LAN Manager or IBM Peer). LAME version 3.98.2 has been released as of 01/29/2009. It is a MP3 encoder, and includes a graphical frame analyzer. Use search key lame- on Hobbes.

Two CD-ROM libraries have been ported to OS/2 as of 01/29/2009: libcddb version 1.3.0 and libcdio version 0.81. Libcddb is a library that implements the protocols for accessing data on a CDDB server (such as freedb.org). Libcdio is a library for CD-ROM and CD image access. Use search keys libcddb and libcdio on Hobbes, respectively.

ABCm2PS has been ported to OS/2 as of 01/29/2009. This is a program for typesetting of musical scores; it uses a page description language (ABC) and produces PostScript output. Use search key abcm2ps on Hobbes.

Art of Illusion version 2.7 has been released as of 01/26/2009. This is a full-featured 3D modelling, rendering, and animation studio that requires Java 1.5. Go to http://aoi.sourceforge.net.
