OS/2 For You At a Glance
December 2002
Newsletter of the Southern California OS/2 User Group
SCOUG's December 21st Meeting:
Open Source: Issues and Answers
with SCOUG's Annual December Raffle Extravaganza
Lynn Maxson and Bob Blair have teamed up to show us what's involved with using and modifying an open source application. You'll find out what can be done better and how you can participate.
OS/2 Help Desk -
Dec 1st and Jan 5th at Chapman University in Orange
Once a month you have a chance to take your problems to SCOUG's OS/2 Help Desk. It's held the first Sunday of the month at Chapman University in room 203 of the Hashinger Hall Science Building. SCOUG volunteers are there to help you work through your hardware and software problems.
Networking SIG
The Networking SIG normally meets at the same time and place as the live OS/2 Help Desk, but it's on hiatus for a few months.
Lynn Maxson provides some background, explanation, and incentive for his OS/2 open source 'call to arms.' |
An image on your computer screen is almost never looks the same when it is printed. Tony discusses the nuances of screen colors vs printer colors to explain why. |
Part 3 of Lynx on OS/2 brings graphics into the picture, showing how you can use a REXX script with an image viewer to look at pictures with Lynx. |
A Process Dump is one way to get more information about what an application was attempting to do at the time it traps. Mr. Know-It-All explains.
|
Download! is your best source for what's new and where to download OS/2 applications and related files. The hot news is that Mozilla 1.2.1 has been released. |
In general you think of the Web as a visual place, so the idea of promoting a text-mode browser might seem incongruous. But it's not, as Dallas showed us in November.
|
Happy Holidays! Raffle Contribution Ideas
- The old printer you replaced with an Epson C-80 that Tony highlighted in Ink.
- The dial-up modem you don't need now since you popped for DSL or cable.
- The 2 GIG drive you took out when you upgraded to a 40 GIG.
- The extra RJ-45 connectors and roll of cable you have left over after following Rocky's lead and networking your home.
- Your old SCOUG CDs of the month... Nah, scrap that idea. You never know when you might need them.
