Entities
- An entity defines a “piece of text” which can be anything from a single character to a book
- An entity has a name
- An entity is used by inserting an entity reference
- HTML uses predefined entities like © and ñ
- XML makes entities extensible, so you might use entities like &my-address; or &about-WEW;
- An entity may be external to the document
- Non-XML entities (like graphics, audio, PDF, etc) are called unparsed entities
- XML entities are called parsed entities
