The WarpZilla team has released Mozilla 1.1 beta as of 07/29/2002.
This is an update to WarpZilla 0.9.2 that Dave Watson demoed at the
July 2001 SCOUG general meeting and included in his overview of
Warp on the Web, and was mentioned in the May 2002 Mr. Know-It-All. Go to

- MultiZilla 1.1.18 beta 2 has been released. This is an extension
that adds more features to the tabbed interface in Mozilla. Go to

DaniS506 version 1.4.6 has been released as of 07/02/2002. This is the
replacement for IBM's IBM1S506 EIDE driver, which features support for
many chipsets, PCCard controllers, busmastering, Ultra33-DMA, Ultra ATA-66,
Ultra ATA-100, faster PIO due to 32-bit I/O, and much more. Use search

The tools for VIA 8233 motherboards (KT266A and some KT133 chipsets)
that control CPU cooling and power management have been updated as of
07/02/2002, as well as the AC'97 sound drivers. Use search key 8233

The Network Interface Card Pak (NICPak) has been updated as of 07/20/2002.
This is a collection of various NIC drivers and a tool for detecting

A port of the Linux BTTV driver (for BT8X8 TV cards) has been released
as of 07/28/2002 (build 1143). A small radio application is included.
Also available is the source (along with a LXAPI32 support driver for
porting Linux drivers). Go to

IBM has updated the BIOS for the Thinkpad T23 as of 07/23/2002. Go to
ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/spsd1a56.exe.
WarpVision was updated on 07/30/2002. It is a player for DivX3/DivX4
format video streams, with MP3/AC3 audio. The latest version has a
nice GUI interface, and no longer uses Odin and Win32 codecs. Go to

z! has been updated to version 2.6 beta 6 as of 07/29/2002. It is a
text-mode MP3 player that can handle streaming audio (Shoutcast), and

CW-Multimedia classes version 0.2.3 were released on 07/13/2002. These
classes are for seamless integration of the MMIO procedures for .MP3
and OGG files; after installation, OGG and .MP3 files are treated the
same way by the WPS as the other audio files, with icons and menus.
There is also a new Media Folder, which plays any audio class known to

DFSee, which was demoed at the June 2001 SCOUG meeting, has been updated
to version 4.28 as of 07/08/2002. It is an FDISK, display, analysis and
recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It now includes some JFS and

- According to the author (Jan van Wijk), this will probably be the
last 4.xx version until version 5 comes out in August at the earliest.
UpdCD version 2.21 has been released as of 07/15/2002. Some bug fixes
and enhancements are included. It can be used to update the base Warp 4
(or Warp Server for e-Business) installation files with FixPaks, and
supports the creation of updated installation diskettes. You can use
the updated OS/2 image in combination with these diskettes to create
new installations of OS/2 which already incorporate the FixPaks and

- Version 2.21 appears to be an update of version 2.2, not a full version.
- The Warp Update Kit (a CD-ROM which will enable you to create your
own updated Warp CD) has been updated to support Warp 3 as well as

Data Representations, who presented Simplicity for Java at the August
2000 SCOUG general meeting, has updated Simplicity to version 1.2.6b as
of 07/09/2002. It features: full support of AWT and Swing; import any
JavaBeans; programmer's editor; new Canvas Composer; dynamic Classpath
editor; auto package-naming; and new Code Sourcerer options. Go to

OpenWatcom, which was part of the June 2002 SCOUG general meeting, is

This month's new listings - Drivers:
SciTech has released a beta of SNAP Graphics for OS/2 as of 07/13/2002.
This was mentioned at the June 2002 SCOUG general meeting. New features
and bug fixes are included. There is a 21-day trial, and new licenses
must be purchased ($36.95 for a new license, $19.95 for an upgrade from
SciTech Display Doctor Pro. If you have the IBM Software Choice
version, you must buy a new license at $36.95). Go to

Matrox has released version 2.55a of their video card BIOS updates as of
07/26/2002. It is for the G200, G400, G450, and G550 video cards. Go

Intel has a driver for their 82830M graphics controller (based on the
Intel 845 chipset family), version 2.19, as of 03/15/2002. Go to

An improved version of GAMEDD.SYS (joystick driver) was released as of
07/30/2002. Use search key gamedd on Hobbes.
Xmouse version 0.7 was released as of 07/18/2002. This is intended to
replace the MOUSE.SYS driver as included in the SCROLLMS.EXE package.
Support for a number of mice (especially Logitech) is included. It also
enhances the detection fallback routine, in that it attempts to fallback
as an intellimouse or intellimouse explorer before going down to a plain
2-button mouse, if the mouse seems to support one of those 2 protocols.

IBM has updated as of 07/12/2002 the MOUSE.SYS driver to version 10.073.
This contains some fixes for the new Thinkpad T30, and also fixes the
long-standing problem with the middle button on 3-button Logitech mice.
It also integrates the TrackPoint features, making MOUSE2.SYS obsolete.
WARNING: according to Steve Wendt, many people have complained about
problems with this latest release, so you may want to save off the
current version of MOUSE.SYS should you need to back out the new version.

IBM has updated to version 2.01 the UDF.IFS driver as of 07/15/2002.
This allows for reading and writing CD-RW's (including DDCD-RW) and
DVD's. HOWEVER: You need a current Software Choice subscription to

IBM has updated the IDEDASD driver package as of 07/29/2002. Included
in the updates are:

Drivers for the Intel EtherExpress (Pro/100) Ethernet cards have been
updated to version 4.32 as of 07/18/2002. It also includes Intel Pro/1000 version 3.12 drivers. Use search key intelpro on Hobbes.
The Analog Devices AD188x (Soundmax) audio driver is now at version
3.1.3 as of 07/16/2002. Use search key ad188xos2 on

This month's new listings - Applications:
Junk Spy version 2.01 has been released as of 07/09/2002. It is a free upgrade for version 2.0 users. A number of problems were corrected (including the automatic update process), and new detectors and clues were added. You must close the currently-running Junk Spy prior to installing the new version. All settings will be preserved, and changes within your e-mail program should not be necessary. Be sure to restart Junk Spy after the installation is complete. Go to

XWorkplace version 0.9.19 has been released as of 07/02/2002. This was

This version has some new features and bug fixes. It requires WarpIn

WarpIn version 0.9.19 has been released as of 07/02/2002. This is an open-source PM installer / uninstaller, that can also install quietly through environment variables. A number of bug fixes and new features are included. Go to http://www.xworkplace.org/proj_warpin.html.
IBM has updated as of 07/31/2002 Java 2 version 1.3.1. According to
Mike Kaply of IBM, it should fix some bugs in WarpZilla that were
really bugs in Java. HOWEVER: You must be a current subscriber to
Software Choice to download. Go to

Nconvert version 3.72 has been released as of 07/01/2002. This is a
multi-format image converter. It can import around 360 graphic file
formats, and can export around 40 formats. Go to

MPEG Audio Utility version 0.23 has been released as of 07/02/2002. It
analyzes all frames of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MPEG-2.5 audio files compressed
with Layer I/II/III. In the case of Layer III files, the gain (volume)
can also be modified. Furthermore Layer III files may be stripped (i.e.

MPGain version 1.05 beta has been released as of 07/02/2002. It is a
powerful utility to modify the real loudness of MP3 files automatically
to one common level. It can operate on MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-2.5

Album Grabber versoin 0.75 has been released. This is basically a bot that grabs album covers off of www.allmusic.com, and requires Java 1.3 (which requires a current Software Choice subscription or eComStation). Go to http://bluedragontavern.dyndns.org/albumgrabber/.
JPEG io-procedure version 0.1.0 has been released as of 07/13/2002.
This procedure is a drop-in replacement for the JPEG procedure in
MMOS2. It supports base JPEG image files (as the IO procedure provided

OggEncPm version 0.9.1 has been released. This is a basic front-end
for the Ogg Vorbis encoder, version 1.0 of which is available from the
same site. Ogg Vorbis is an audio compression format similar to MP3,
but free of patented algorithms and fully open source. Go to

TVShow version 0.4 has been released as of 07/16/2002. This is intended
for viewing TV with BT878-based TV cards. Go to

ImageJ version 1.28 beta has been released as of 07/19/2002. It is a
powerful image-editing program with numerous plugins. HOWEVER: You
need Java 1.3 or greater, which in turn means you need a current
Software Choice subscription or eComStation. Go to

JPhotoBrush version 1.5 has been released. It is an image-editing and
enhancement application/tool written in Java 1.3, making extensive use
of Swing and Java2D. HOWEVER: as with ImageJ, you need Java 1.3 or
greater, which in turn means you need a current Software Choice

cdrtools version 1.11a27 has been released as of 07/22/2002. This
contains cdrecord, readcd, cdda2wav, and mkisofs. You can burn single
session, multi-session, or audio CD's. Use search key cdrtools on

Audio/Data-CD-Creator version 0.52 has been released as of 07/31/2002.
It is a folder class for the WPS which works as a front-end for CDRecord/2 for creating audio and data CD's. Just put wavefiles or data into this folder and press "write". Arbitrary ordering of files

RSJ CD Writer is now at version 4.05 as of 07/30/2002. It is commercial
software that can be purchased directly from the RSJ website
(http://www.rsj.de) or thru Mensys
(http://shop.mensys.nl/mns_RSJCD.html). It can be purchased as a digital delivery, or as a shipped box version. The update for existing users

Odin Bug Report Generator version 0.5.7 test was released as of
07/18/2002. It was part of Steven Levine's Odin presentation at the
August 2001 SCOUG meeting. This is a tool to easily generate Odin bug
reports, and replaces an older version that is now included with Odin.

A tool for unpacking Windows archives in the WISE format has been
updated as of 06/30/2002. This can be useful for extracting programs

InJoy version 3.0 beta has been updated as of 07/06/2002. It is the
well-known Internet dialer, which supports IPSec (the standard for
interconnected, secure networking devices), and the predominant technology
in Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The beta is at

http://www.fx.dk/injoy/.
InJoy Firewall version 3.0 beta has been updated as of 07/06/2002.
This runs on a computer with an Internet connection and acts as an Internet Gateway for other computers on your private LAN. It is designed for LAN-to-LAN configurations, including cable modem and DSL installations. It features: PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet), support of the
interoperable IPSec VPN standard, NDIS Protocol Engine, NAT support (RFC 1631-style Network Address Translation), direct Internet access for your LAN PC's, no reconfiguration on other machines, PM version, link monitoring with statistics and alerting, support for filter and
firewall plugins, identd support, priority setting, and lots of bug

Zip Control version 2.69 has been released as of 07/04/2002. This is a
PM front-end to Zip / UnZip / PKZip. Archive functions supported include: viewing, deleting, printing, unzipping, create new, encryption / decryption, test-run, and virus scanning. Go to

VFAT2EA version 1.31 has been released as of 07/26/2002. This utility
converts VFAT long filenames to .LONGNAME extended attributes and vice

DSK4PM version 4.30 beta 4 has been released as of 07/03/2002. It is a
PM utility to build disks from IBM's *.DSK images (replacing LOADDSKF.EXE). Go to

Guiffy, which was presented at the Feb. 2002 SCOUG general meeting, has
been updated to version 4.5 as of 07/17/2002. It is a file compare / merge (diff-like) tool with a GUI implemented in Java. Go to http://www.guiffy.com/.
UPS Monitor has been updated as of 07/14/2002. It monitors the status
of your UPS, and provides shutdown services to the operating system. Go to http://home.att.net/~ASchw/upsmonitor.html to see if your UPS is supported, and if so, to download.
Run_Java has been updated as of 07/14/2002. It will create a "Create Java Object" program object on your desktop. Just drop a .JAR file on the object to create a program object for the .JAR file. It will also create a "Run Jars" object, which will allow you to start most modern
Java apps by just double-clicking on the .JAR file. Use search key run_java on

Maul Publisher version 2.11 was released as of 07/08/2002. It is billed as "the world's first professional desktop publisher for OS/2". Go to

Privoxy, formerly known as JunkBuster, is now at version 2.9.16 beta as of 07/26/2002. This program blocks ads and cookies while you are browsing the Web. It was

Virtual PC for OS/2 version 4.3.2 has been released. It allows you to execute additional operating systems on top of your OS/2 desktops. A number of new features and enhancements are included. It is a free upgrade for existing Virtual PC for OS/2 customers. It is commercial software that must be purchased thru Mensys (http://shop.mensys.nl/catalogue/mns_VirtualPC.html), but you can order the digital delivery or a boxed version for 239 Euros (approximately $236.34). Octave version 2.0.17 (build 1) has been released as of 07/28/2002. This is a high-level language primarily intended for numerical computations. It was presented by Ben Archer and Michael (Rocky) Rakijas previously at a SCOUG general meeting. It provides a convenient command-line interface for solving linear and non-linear problems numerically. Use

Lynx version 2.8.4 release 1b has been released as of 07/29/2002. It is a text-mode browser that was reviewed in the Sept. 2001 OS/2 For You by Dallas Legan, and was also mentioned in the May 2002
