That's funny. I'd forgotten that Gene Akins (you spelled it correctly)
mentioned RAR.

I went back to the interview and noticed that Gene said it was on
Hobbes. So here's the whole story. I _did_ go to Hobbes before posting
my query, and searched on "RAR". Back came something like 180 hits. I
went through the list looking for it. I haven't got the slightest idea
why I missed it (it's near the end), but I didn't see it.

And you trust someone like _me_ to write accurate articles? :))

I spoke to Gene by phone a few months ago. He was still doing
BackMaster (MSR Development) technical support, but as an independent
contractor rather than as an employee.
