Hello to all --
Had there been a Sept. SCOUG meeting, I would have taken an
informal poll re the following, but since the meeting has just
been cancelled, I think I'll use a venue or two like this
instead.
I was really looking forward to this event, a few short weeks
from now -- had the tickets, reservations, etc. Even if the
event proceeds as scheduled, I'm now leaning towards pulling the
plug on this non-essential trip. My reasons are not primarily of
a security nature: I've been in some dicey locales when some
pretty hairy stuff was going on, whereas Toronto is apt to be one
of the most benign destinations possible. Rather, I have a
feeling that air-travel (and any int'l. travel) is going to be
such a hassle, and such an unpleasant experience for quite some
time, that there will be a lot to be said for avoiding it. If
the conference goes on, it may be greatly hobbled from what it
would have been. And if a counterstrike occurs while we are
there, with all that that may entail, I don't want to have the
choice of staying an extra week in Toronto, or driving back to
SoCal.
Tell me this is ridiculous, that you disagree, whatever. Tell me
off-list, if you prefer. I'd like to get some idea of what other
prospective attendees are thinking.
