Not an assumption. A fact. :-)

You could not recover it from the maintenance desktop IAC. You could
restore the original desktop (i.e. via Alt-F1), but I can't say how much
of your customizations you will lose.
You might try Object Recreator (see Hobbes). Delete the object and let
ORC rebuild it.
One thing, for sure. Make a backup of what you have before experimenting.
