I've also had problems with Netscape hogging the cpu (2) and lockout while
Netscape closes down (3). I use both Netscape 4.61 and Mozilla 1.2a with
Warp4. Although I prefer Mozilla, I like the bookmark edit capabilities of
Netscape much better. Also, some sites require Java, and Mozilla requires
Java 1.3 for Java functions, which I don't have.

I have only a 300 mhz cpu and I find that Netscape is not handling a lot of
the newer forum-style websites very well. There seem to be two cpu problems:

1. Webpages with formats that require a lot of nesting or loops to decode; I
find that Mozilla handles them much better... since I'm absent-minded, I've
even altered some of my Netscape bookmarks (for frequently-used sites that
exhibit this problem) to add "useMozilla." right after http:// in the
bookmark url address. That prevents me from accessing the site with Netscape
and reminds me that I need to use Mozilla for that site.

2. Some web pages have a LOT of little animated cartoon images (forgot what
you call them, is it animated GIF's?) that were eating up my cpu; in Mozilla
you can select Edit->Preferences-> Privacy&Security=>images, and under
"animated images should loop" check "once" to alleviate that problem (the
animations do one animation cycle and then stop moving).
There does not seem to be a similar facility in Netscape.

As for the lockup at shutdown of Netscape, I found it is related to the
cache files, which are being accessed during shutdown; the problem gets
worse with the passing weeks. Supposedly if you occasionally use
"Edit->Preferences=>Advanced->Cache and clear disk cache it will alleviate
this... except it did not alleviate it at all for me, I found I had to
simply delete the cache file folder off my hard drive occasionally; it seems
to be regenerated fine the next time you bring up Netscape.
