Your rambling description sorta lost me. I'm a simple guy. :-)

Maybe this will help you focus on where to look...

There are 3 different ways to invoke tcp/ip printing:

- lpr
- lprmon
- lprportd

All use the same protocols, but all are otherwise unrelated.

lpr sends the data directly to the print server, no daemon needed.

lprmon acts as a deamon and captures a printer port and redirects the
output to the print server.

lprprotd acts as a deamon and also acts as a port driver for printer
objects which communicate with it via named pipes.

What this means is, to print with lpr, use:

lpr ...

To print with lprmon, use:

copy file lptx

To print with lprportd, use the standard PM/WPS methods or use:

copy file \pipe\lpdx

This should work, but I've not tested it yet.
