Learning the first language is difficult because of the concepts.
Learning the second language is difficult because it's nothing like the
first language. Learning the third language is easy because it's just
like the first two.

It's like huntin'. Huntin' for deer ain't like huntin' for squirrels.
But after that, every critter is just more huntin'.

I used a command file, something like:

C:>compile mydriver

> maybe re-learn assembler

That can be a pain. Most of the instructions are very simple, but a few
are a real learning experience.

It's just an interface with the hardware ("if bit 3 is set, there's
another byte waiting for me"), plus an interface to any software that's
using it ("what might a program want to ask for or send to me?").

The final "gotcha" is that hardware has bugs too. You have to write
workarounds for the hardware bugs.

Timur has helped a lot of people. He's a good guy.

I'm on it, though I never read it any more. If somebody wants the
archive I can send it. It's currently about 8 MB.

There are other similar lists. DDK2 (very small). PDD (inactive but
much good info). WarpDriver.

DDK2 and WarpDriver are at Yahoo Groups (same as OS2DDProg). PDD was at
OS2SS.
