I would update the firmware before much more mucking around. You have the initial runtime and it's
bound to have errors. That is why they are at v 1.40 now. It's easy to do. SMC's instructions are
adequate.

Start the download process at: http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?action=tech_support_drivers_downloads

Select broadband routers, wait for the screen to update, select 7004ABR, wait for screen to update,
then select the .zip file depending on your hardware.
