I tried this (what the heck, I have backups of os2.ini files!). I also
moved the WarpCenter and the toolbar to the startup folder as suggested.
Worked fine. =
Rebooted and re-ran checkini... this time only one bad handle remained
instead of many dozens!!! I can live with that.
Checked 'create archive...' on desktop properties and rebooted.
OS2.INI was 709,425 before all this began, now is 616,639
OS2SYS.INI was 450,757 now is 171,726 =
Seems to be working fine (although the hang was always intermittant, so
it'll take a while to be absolutely confident).
My thanks to Peter and Steven for all their help!
