Since April 2002, I have been negotiating on and off for the "rights" to a
domain name - initial asking price was US $2900.00. My latest offer was
US $100. Their counter offer was:

"Our best offer is $350 and we will also extend the
domain's expiration date until 2012 (that's 10 FREE years until renewal!).
Let us know."

I want to eventually have my own mail server & web page based from my home
system. My question is what is the "actual" cost per year for registering
a single domain name? If I run the domain name from my home system are
their any other additional costs that I need to to know about?

I would like to have this domain name but certainly not for the initial
$2900. That's a lot of cat food. :)

This would be my first serious attempt at creating my own mail server.
Comments appreciated.
