The -2 is a mystery to me.  I've not seen it before.   
I believe it is a CompGeeks part number convention.   
TP models are described as: 2645-4AU (mine)   
 
I've not tried the USB port, except under Win98SE.    
Seems to work acceptably there. Laptop is actually my wife's.  
I just get to maintain it and carry it .   
I really miss the lack of a built-in LAN port.  I found the IBM 10/100   
EtherJet cardbus adapter surplus for cheap and it has OS/2 drivers. There   
are a couple of things it does NOT do, like WOL, but I don't need them.    
Steven has identified those shortcomings, but it's not a problem   
for me.  The cards were cheap enough, so that buying two is a reasonable   
course of action.  I leave one permanently connected to the cat 5 cable   
at home.
