I'm not familiar with this particular printer either, but I've used
IBM/Lexmark 4019 (300dpi) and 4039 (600dpi) lasers on my home PC for 4 or 5
years. Bought them used and never had a problem with them that I can
remember. We had 4019's in my office before I retired, and they were
bulletproof too.
I upgraded to the 600dpi 4039 "10Plus" model with optional 500-page drawer
and a duplexer about 6 months ago. They handle plain text or postscript.
Cartridges are expensive at about $150 new, or around $75 "remanufactured";
expensive, but they last for about 20 reams of paper (single-side) which
means I only need to purchase perhaps one a year. I'm pleased with the print
quality... it only uses 600dpi to print postscript, text is 300dpi. Used
4039's commonly sell on eBay in the $75-$100 range, although they are very
heavy, so shipping can add around $50. I've still got the 4019 printer
(actually, I have two, I got the second for $50 locally, thinking it could
serve as a parts source if mine broke down, but I never had to use it) and
it still works fine, I just don't use it anymore.
