If you are responding to someone asking for help who

J. R.,

Sorry, I do not have scripts for CHECKINI and/or CLEANINI that will only
generate a diagnostic log of found problems. The scripts that I have are
designed to run CHECKINI, or CLEANINI, and invoke the various option
parameters for those programs, without having to memorize the syntax.
Basically, the scripts are REXX text-based. They provide a text screen
and a prompt for you to run CHECKINI/CLEANINI and easily input the
desired options.

Both CHECKINI and CLEANINI are run from the commandline (unless you use
my scripts).

To run CHECKINI in diagnostic mode, only, you simply run it without any
parameters. I'm not sure, if you can run CLEANINI in diagnostic mode,
only. I could not find that anywhere in the instructions (maybe I
overlooked it). Steven L probably knows for sure.

Attached please find my scripts for CHECKINI and CLEANINI. The zip files
are fairly well self-contained and self-explanatory. After you become
comfortable with CHECKINI/CLEANINI (running in diagnostic mode, only),
you might try the scripts. I believe that they are easier to use than
running CHECKINI and CLEANINI from the commandline.

If you have not cleaned your OS2*.INI files in a llllllong time (or,
ever), you may have to go very slowly with the FIRST cleaning procedure
(do a little in each session, making sure that you do not run into
problems).

The procedure I use, based on discussions with Steven, is to use
UniMaint first, then CHECKINI, and finally CLEANINI. After you have
successfully cleanined the *.INI files for the first time , you should
then do so routinely. There should be no problems on subsequent
cleanings.

Good luck.
