I asked Andrew Belov (the SmartMon developer) about this and here's his  
answer:  
 
    > Do you happen to know if SCSI drives can also  
    > report these errors?  
 
    They do (and IBM's HDMON seems to support them)  
    but I don't have any SCSI-based OS/2 system at  
    my disposal to write and test the code.  
 
If you have SCSI drives, run HDMON.  If you have IDE drives, run  
SmartMon.
