Yes, Excel versions before Excel95 shall run under WIN-OS/2 !
They are 16-bit versions and also MS Office V 4.3 Professional
is still running on my system ;-)

I have switched and use English Star Office 5.1a !

Star Office is able to read these WIN proprietary files and
convert
to its own OS/2-readable format ;-))

As a perspective to future:
Beside of OS/2, Star Office runs under various OS'es i.e. Mac and
Linux
as version 6.0 not for free but much much cheaper than M$ Office
stuff !

In my system I have various data back to 1987 ...
... and all are still readable under OS/2 ;-)))

Very Cool OS/2 !!!

Subject: SCOUG-Help: Re: attachment question

It's possible that an older version of Excel will run under
WinOS2.

I've got an unused copy of Excel 5 around here somewhere on
floppy
that I've been itching to try. If the author saves the
spreadsheet
in a previous version format, e.g v5, you may loose some of the
newer
formatting features but the spreadsheet should come through
intact.

But the reality of it is that my wife has a windows machine that
I'd use for this, 'cause its faster than the untried
alternatives.
Anybody interested in trying it AND reporting back to this list?

I'll email the floppy (contents via LOADDSKF or snail-mail the
plastic)
when I find it. Ask off list, PLEASE! I'm travelling now but
should
be home again in a day or so (email via cell-phone is so
slooooow).
