I too have the BR version but my cable ISP runs DHCP. I have not had a lease problem. In fact I have
had the same IP since April of this year and that thru 3 power outages at my house plus one week where
everything was turned off and unplugged from the wall while I was gone. Maybe it's an ISP problem not
an SMC problem.
FWIW, I power down only my cpu box at night. The monitor goes to sleep on its own and the lan
equipment, including the SMC 7004BR, and printers (3) stay on.
