\OS2\DLL\dock*.cfg

But I don't know the file format. And I don't think these files are
freestanding; I believe they contain references into the OS2*.INI files.

I've scrambled my dock*.cfg files a few times when "experimenting" with
my system. To get my WarpCenter back to normal all I had to do was
restore the dock*.cfg files from my last backup. It was pretty obvious
what was wrong -- all the file sizes went to 46 bytes (the size of the
dock*.cfg file for an unused Tray).

If your WarpCenter icons are still there but they display the "broken
link" image, then the dock*.cfg files are okay but your OS2*.INI file(s)
are scrambled.

Here's the solution: Backup, Backup, Backup and then backup again.
Backup every hour. Backup every reboot (from Startup.cmd). Keep
several generations (I keep about 10).

Here ya go (this version doesn't keep multiple generations):

  @echo off
  set bootdrv=G
  if exist syBackup.zip del syBackup.zip
  zip syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\CONFIG.SYS
  zip -S syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\OS2\OS2*.INI
  zip syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\OS2\DLL\dock*.cfg
  zip syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\OS2\DLL\SCENTER.CFG
  zip -Sr syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\Desktop\*
  zip syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\STARTUP.CMD
  zip syBackup.zip %bootdrv%:\MPTN\BIN\SETUP.CMD

(With thanks to Ray Davison and Steven Levine who both made helpful
suggestions.)

To keep multiple backup generations (on disk) I wrote a little Rexx
program (MakeDirectory-ChangeDirectory-DateTime or MDCDDtTm.cmd) which
creates a new subdirectory named with the current date-time and then
changes to that directory. Thus, every new backup is in its own
directory. It's only 15 lines (plus comments); I'll post it if you want
to use it.
