Butch,
Based on my reading of what you wrote, you could have 2 problems. I do
not really know, because what you've stated is not fully clear to me. I
believe that you DO have a file association problem, so lets fix that
first. OK?

You stated that the *.mp3 is associated with the OS2 System Editor and
Enhanced System Editor. That is occurring, because the file type reads
"plain text" instead of "mp3" or perhaps "*.mp3". The "association" of
this data file to the correct executable program is wrong. Therefore,
you cannot double click on it with the expectation that it will open Z,
load the file into Z and then run the file. Let's fix that.

You should use the Association Editor to fix it. We talked on this
subject before and I presume that you downloaded the Association Editor
from Hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/)? If not, you should do so. Using
this editor, you can associate *.mp3 files with Z in either or both of
two ways (by file type and/or file filter). A file type is a short
descriptive text for the file, like "plain text" or "executable". File
filters are filename masks like "*.mp3". I believe (but am not certain)
that file types have to do with the extended attributes of the file.
Probably your best bet is to use the file filter association in
Association Editor and associate your *.mp3 files to Z via that file
filter.

You should also use the Association Editor to clean up all your other
data-to -executable file associations on your system.

Now, as to the other (possible) problem. You stated: "Z starts, but when
I attempt to exhibit a playlist, nothing occurs". I'm not sure what you
mean here. Usually, when you open a program/application you can go a
"File" menu item. Under this item there is usually an "Open" or perhaps
a "New" choice. Using "Open" or "New" you can browse your partitions and
directories for files that the program can open and run. Is that what
you are doing, when you mention "exhibit a playlist"? I don't have Z, so
I do not know how it works and what its user interface is.
