This is to some extent a matter of personal preference. I lean towards the control freak end of the spectrum, so I prefer to have just about everything be a la carte, for specific item by item choice. (But that seems to be less
and less of an option these days, with the newer motherboards, which have so much stuff built-in.) There can be certain ramifications for OS/2 users, where one might want to avoid conflicts, or not have to bother trying to turn
built-ins OFF in the BIOS, and to be sure of having appropriate drivers, etc. This is less of an issue than it was before, thanks to things like SDD / SNAP for the video, but we're still not in the carefree status of Win users,
when it comes to connecting most any hardware and having it be auto-detected and working with no effort or concerns.
