Peter,

Cleaning up the kitchen led to having someone clean the carpet which led
to an orgy of washing, polishing as part of an every five year cleanup.
Hence the big delay in using the dSync info you sent.

Read your other message. Despite all the work here have no interest in
trading places with you.

Ran DSync per your instructions from my Maintenance partition. It ran
with zero errors and found 444 directories and 4,761 files on C: and L: as
you can see from the log file below. So did XTGold; it also showed the
same number of bytes in C: and L:--171,745,761.

11/07/2003 22:39:36 [Info] Starting dSync for OS/2, Version 0.1.4 (c)
2001,2002 by MaDdEd-Ii. 11/07/2003 22:39:36 [Info] ...
11/07/2003 22:39:36 [Info] Phase #1 : Scan SrcPath=C:.
11/07/2003 22:40:26 [Info] Phase #1 finished, found 444 dirs, 4761 files,
0 errors. 11/07/2003 22:40:26 [Info] Phase #2 : Scan DstPath=L: and kill
old files. 11/07/2003 22:40:26 [Info] Phase #2 finished, found 0 dirs, 0
files, 0 errors, killed 0 objects. 11/07/2003 22:40:26 [Info] Phase #3 :
Mirroring SrcPath to DstPath. 11/07/2003 22:43:41 [Info] Phase #3
finished, found 0 errors, 444 dirs changed, 4761 files changed. 11/07/2003
22:43:41 [Info] Job finished with 0 total errors. 11/07/2003 22:43:41
[Info] Program ended

Then I ran XCOMP and got the same results as with XCOPY:

Execution from Fri. 11.Jul.2003 22:48

Comparing files qualified by *
at Source path c:\orig\
with Target path L:\copy\
using 8388608 bytes buffer size

XCOMP118: Error SYS3 returned by DosFindFirst() at Line 1130

XCOMP005: 1 directory(ies) could not be opened. This may be caused by non
accessible directories due to ACLs (e.g. on HPFS386), an
incorrect/outdated file system driver (e.g CD-ROM) or file system
corruption. XCOMP007: 0 file(s) compared successfully, 0 file(s) compared
totally.

Just before running dSync, I backed up C: with BAII and ran the Compare
option with integrity check specified. It was okay with 4760 files but
said there was a problem with two files. XTGold showed:

C:\OS2\HELP\primary_.db
C:\OS2\HELP\primary_.db~
L:\OS2\HELP\primary_.db~ only

XTGold showed 4760 files and 171,745,715 bytes on C: and 4757 files and
171,682,457 bytes on L:

I don't know what to make of all of this but I am beginning to have doubts
about the abilities of XCOMP. I e-mailed the XCOMP log to the author and
asked how to identify the source of the XCOMP118 and XCOMP115 errors.
Maybe he will help.

In the meantime any ideas you (or anyone else) may have are welcome.

Aside for Ray Davison--if I knew any way to count the number of files and
bytes except with XGold, I would use it.
