Harry,
Thanks for the info. Following are the results:
>1. Make a copy of your present CONFIG.SYS file. Save it somewhere, like on a
>floppy diskette. Hope you have a way to restore this file to your system, should
>something go wrong. That is, hope you have an OS/2 maintenance installation, either
>on diskettes, CD or a HD.
I follow the Peter Skye school of thought. I have a full Warp 4 system
installed for maintenance. Do all my backups to HD from there. I saved my
CONFIG.SYS to the "C_Part" subdirectory on the maintenance partition.
> A. Add the "DEVICE=E:\CDWFS\ASPIROUT.SYS" to the file
I REM'ed the C:\OS2\BOOT\ASPIROUT.SYS /V line in CONFIG.SYS. I copied
ASPIROUT.SYS to the E:\CDWFS directory and added the specified line to
CONFIG.SYS in the specified location. I did include the /V switch because I'm
still monitoring stuff on startup.
> B. REM the "BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT" line
Done
>3. Reboot your system. You should be able to go to the "Drives" folder and see
>a new drive letter, representing your new CD unit. You should be able to read (see
>only) any CD in it. This will be a permanent new drive. Naturally, when you use RSJ to
>attach your unit, you will then also see another drive, probably lettered as "Z". You can
>read-write from that drive
All of this worked as advertised. I'm not sure just why, though. Was it
moving ASPIROUT.SYS to the E:\CDWFS directory? (It was, otherwise, in the same
sequence, but in the C:\OS2\BOOT subdirectory.) Perhaps it was REM'ing the
LOCKCDR.FLT entry. I may do some experimenting to find out.
>4. I've noticed that my present setup of OS/2 has a problem, when I boot up with a
>music CD inside a drive bay, instead of a data CD. The system tells me that I cannot
>see that particular CD drive unit. ...
I seldom use my system for audio CD's so I don't anticipate a problem. I
prefer to have an empty tray when my system isn't running. But thanks for the
heads-up.
Harry, I really appreciate the assist. It would have been very frustrating to
figure this out on my own. 'preciate it!
