Okay, here's a mystical problem for you. I recently switched one computer from
a Logitech bus mouse (that was misbehaving enough that it had to go) to a serial
mouse. Before making the physical switch, the mouse worked well enough to use
selective install to make the software switch and shut down. I then removed the
bus mouse from the machine and attached the serial mouse (I tried both COM1 and
COM2 eventually). At the reboot, the VMOUSE.SYS wouldn't load, stopping at boot
and saying something to the effect that the device wasn't found. Pressing
return continues the boot process and not only does the boot complete properly,
but the mouse works in all except DOS sessions (which is what you would expect
without VMOUSE loaded). The lines from CONFIG.SYS are an unsurprising:

DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VMOUSE.SYS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\POINTDD.SYS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\MOUSE.SYS

, the rest of CONFIG.SYS seems faily conventional (attached) and there are no
apparent conflicts (IRQ or otherwise) in the device manager. I've swapped in a
various set of serial mice with no change in behavior. What could be preventing
VMOUSE from loading and what can I do to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help
you can offer.

-Rocky
