The really looks like a typical DLL conflict trap.  Try uppercase:  
 
 SET MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1  
 SET LIBPATHSTRICT=T  
 
It should not matter, but I've always seen them specified in uppercase.  
 
Also, make sure both Thunderbird and Firefox have their own private copies  
of the gcc DLLs.
