Not Compatible and Not Supported are two different things....

For the Most part... If your DSL Modem has an Ethernet Port on it, you
can connect ANY DEVICE that supports DHCP on TCP/IP over Ethernet to it
and get an Internet connection.

folk in the know recommend this one. I followed their advice and had no
problems with it. It has a built in hardware firewall so saves dealing
with that problem.

I would like to "inject here" that I found the BEFSR41 to be a little
"troublesome".
My Employer just moved to a new location. We did not keep our Old DSL
provider or the Modem.
Our new DSL provider, sold us a Action-Tek, USB-Ethernet External box
model GT701 with FW: 3.0.1.0.5.5. IT works great!!
My first choice for a Firewall was the BEFSX41.
============================================================================
First off, STAY AWAY from the LinkSys BEFSX41 Router/Firewall/VPN!!!
The BEFSX41, is only "tested" to work with Internet Explorer.
In REALITY, It won't work with Mozilla 1.7.5 on OS/2 or Win32, it Won't
work with Firefox 1.02 on Win32, it Won't even work with IE 5.xx on Win2000.
Page Time-Outs, Partial Page Loads, Really NO Excuse for it not to work,
but it doesn't!!
============================================================================
After getting the BEFSX41 configured with IE 6.x, it would continually
loose connections with our SAMBA Server and the Internet in General..
Lots of Death Threats from my Co-Workers.
I took the BEFSX41 back to Staples, and Exchanged it. The NEW ONE
worked just as bad!!! Cost $79.95 plus Three Trips to Staples..
My one co-Worker has a BEFSR41, which he was not currently using.
The BEFSR41 will configure with Firefox, or Mozilla. But still will not
keep a Connection to the Internet.. Lots and Lots of complaints from my
Co-Workers!!!
What now works Flawlessly, is a Belkin F5D7230-4, Wireless-G
Router/Firewall. Also the Belkin was priced at $69.99 at Home Depot,
but Rang Up at $59.99, and because I purchased it before 10-APR-2005, I
hope to get a $40.00 rebate...
We are not even using the Wireless-G part, at the moment. Just the
Firewall/Router, and it holds up very well. Our Line Speed is 1.5/1.0Mb
sec, and we do get ~1.4-1.5 on Downloads...
So after 2 different BEFSX41, one BEFSR41, I am none too happy with
LinkSys right now.. They cost me a Solid Week of problems, time away
for my REAL JOB!!!
=======================================================================
I have been meaning to write this up, for all to see, I don't want to
"dis" LinkSys, but their Tech Support did not help me one bit.... I own
a LinkSys 8port Switch, and it works great!! But Next Time I reach for
a Networking Switch, LinkSys will not be my First Choice.

that they supply. It has a router built in. You do not need anything
else but an ethernet card in your PC. The configuration of the account
CAN be done with a browser. You do not need to install or use any of
the software they provide. It is very simple to configure. I have one
linux PC and one OS/2 on my network and I had no trouble configuring
either PC or the modem. They say that other modems will work as well
but I can only speak about the Westell that Bell South supplied to me.
Thanks Alon!!
Except for that BLASTED "BEFSX41 Router/Firewall/VPN", any
Hub/Switch/Router that uses Direct Serial, Telnet, or Web Interface I
have used works great with OS/2, and I would presume Linux, since it
would use the Same Browsers...
