iirc). Circle C copyrights the written material (the "sheet music") but
does not protect the actual recording. Applicable case law didn't allow
you to "bootleg" an album (i.e. press your own copies and sell them) but
there was no legal case against people who simply uploaded songs for
others to download. The DMCA created Circle P which is a "Performance
Copyright" so that nobody would ever again upload a song for others to
download. If the Circle P notice does not appear on the CD then there
isn't a Performance Copyright.
