I don't think that hypothesis is going to hold up.  
The line in both the 1.2R and the 2.0b installs 
*stops* at =USBMSD.ADD.  And the behaviors are 
different (and vs. 1.2GA), just as I described.

The Alert box pops up in 1.2R, but not in the others.  
A memory stick is detected right away (NO Refreshes 
required) in 1.2R and 2.0b, but *not* with 1.2GA.  
*All* of these require jiggling the device in the 
socket before the light will come on.  (That is *not* 
the case with W2K.)  Adjusting the USBMSD line in 
1.2GA hasn't made a difference. 
I can't compare the detections of ext. USB HDD at the 
moment, because I don't have any ready for hookup 
right now that have FAT-16 or HPFS partitions on them. 
 Never had much luck with the FAT-32 or NTFS drivers.
