How true. This morning I set up a list of the many things to try,
including the suggestions made by SCOUG HELP members.
I will just list the highlights:
1. Top priority was to download documentation. Had problems
and gave it up temporarily
2. Attempt to boot the UBUNTU operating system that I seemed to
succeed in installing (partially) yesterday. It booted, but stopped
short at a prompt. I tried several things no help
3. Tried several tasks without much success
4. To answer Steven's question I again attempted to install eCS 1.2R
a. preparing to start installer OK
b. Begin installation OK
c. License agreement OK
d. Installation Type (I chose advanced installation)
e. Enter registration OK
f. Select volume
At this point the table of volumes was always blank but
listing Installable volumes always gave just one 7MB
at which point I had no choice but to quit.
However, today the table also listed the UBUNTU volume
which gave me the opportunity to use LVM to define a
new partition for eCS 1.2R
[A:] 4769 Linux 1
Z: eCS Memory Boot disk 15 FAT
C: Volume 2
g. Format volume 2 OK then booting
h. Install files (rebooting) OK
i. rebooting a second time
At this point the screen went wild with a Mondrianesque
colorful image of many squares and blinking. There
was another re-boot and a message followed by more
fancy random colorful blinking.
j. To recover that message I re-installed eCS 1.2R on yet
another partition. The message is the following:
DHCPSTRT: DHCP client did not get parameters.
DHCPSTRT continuing to try in background
Press enter to continue.
(At this point I let the screen blink for over 1/2 hour
before turning off the computer.)

I guess one might call this progress!?
