You woke me up out of my sleep.
Ray poses a good question.

AVI just like MPG, and MOV extensions are loosely used so to speak.
Multiple codecs / file formats use these extensions.
To answer what OS/2 supports out of the box .
AVI Codecs - Ultimotion (OS/2, AIX and Win16 Only), Intel Indeo 4.
MPG Codecs - MPEG-1, Video CD-1, MP2 Audio.
MOV Codecs - None (But registered with MMOS2 anyway)
It was a theory that The never completed Apple Quicktime for OS/2 was
going to be packed in. (Available on Hobbes)

Let's compare eCS 1.1-1.2

AVI Codecs - Ultimotion (OS/2, AIX and Win16 Only), Intel Indeo 4,
Avpocodec (A collection of AVI codecs usually used in win16 products).
MPG Codecs - MPEG-1, MP2 Audio.
MOV Codecs - Practice - QuikFlicks (Compatible with Apple Quicktime 4)

This is just Video support. Audio is another subject.

Even with the extra codec support in eCS, There isn't much on the
internet you would be able to play.

Current day AVI, MPG, and MOV files can be many possible codecs.
Most of these can be played with Warpvision or FFPlay. To my suprize,
Even though both products are based on the same open source codec
libraries, Each can play some codecs the other can't. So it pays to try
both.

I bet the "MP" refers to MegaPixels. The cameras resolution quality. The
AVI files you are getting from both cameras are different codecs neither
of which are OS/2 supported. I have had better luck with FFPlay on most
of the cameras I have tried video with.
If the camera doesn't record sound then Warpvision usually works.

Look at Mainactor on Hobbes.
It supports a fair amount of codecs, But I found using FFMPEG to convert
the video to high quality MPEG-1 and then using Mainactor to edit it.
Then convert using FFMPEG to MPEG-4. Sets it up nice for. (See next reply)

DVD Author - Get FFPLAY, FFMPEG, And DVD Author from Paul Smedleys site

Mainactor will do that...
