Maybe DOS has to get broken in.  I have four file managers - including   
NC DOS - on all machines including my Fujitsu LT.  I just made an   
object for NC.  I clicked it, everything locked, it cried, and now   
works normally.  
 
I doubt that is of any help to you, I just find that amusement to be   
more healthy than frustration.
