I seem to have come up with a reliable, consistent way to install eCS
on complex systems. In my experience W4 would install anywhere I
pointed it without regard to other partitions. eCS seems to want to
be the only game in town. Yes - with Stephens help - I did get it to
install on my laptop when XP was already on the drive. But on a
desktop - where I can plug in another HDD - I give it a clean drive
and it doesn't fight me.
I have a 3G drive that I make the first master and only drive on the
machine. I use DFSEE to erase the front of the drive - I have had
install fail when the only thing on the drive was a previous
installation of eCS. Install has then been routine. I then copy the
partition to a storage drive that is all extended except possibly a
DOS primary. I have three basic installations to which I assigned
three different drive letters. Now, if I want to build a working
drive I copy one of those.
