You just do not appreciate the power of DOS. Stuff created by fancy
GUI OSs is very "touchable", IF it can see the file system. That is
one reason I have always kept Win on FAT. And how about native FAT32
and USB; no drivers. Altho I'm not sure who gets credit for the USB
support; BIOS, DOS or some combination.
