Subject: SCOUG-Help: New notebook - install

End of the year spending time, so I finally decided to get a new laptop.
Finding my ThinkPad such a terrific machine, I opted for a Z60t. It has
some quite interesting features, most notably for SCOUG members - a built
in EVDO card!

I thought that I'd document some of my install experience here, to help
the next person. I expect I'll need some help, too.

First step was to try to shrink the partition with Windows XP
pre-installed using dfsee. though I selected the correct (FAT32)
partition, and asked it to resize, resizing was not available. After not
finding a solution, I've decided to wait to see if I can get a successful
install, then restore the machine to its out-of-the-box state, fix the
problem and do a "real" install.

So them I tried an "easy" install. No drivers were there for the network
card (though they're supported under the Genmac wrapper), so I selected
"no network adapter." On the first phase reboot, the machine gives me a
trap D, right after the null network driver loads. So I tried Alt-f4 to
step through the driver loading. After telling the re-boot to skip the
null network driver, it still trapped. Must be another driver that's the
problem.

So I tried a plain vanilla install - no network at all, plain VGA, no
sound, no Dani's drivers, etc. It didn't trap, though I had error messages
that com.sys and vcom.sys did not load, nor the RJSCSI drivers.

The install continued to a final desktop.

I decided a re-install, gradually adding in different things that I had
eliminated. First was to go back to Dani's drivers. Re-boot worked!

My next step will be to use regular video, though this time I'll try to
install the regular SNAP drivers.
