You should not need to IR drivers loaded to access the IR port as a COM 
port.

Makes sense.  You are back to accessing the other COM port. 
I've been planning on disabling the modem in my 770x, since I never use 
it.  If I get to this today, I'll see what I can find out about the IR 
port.
