Subject: SCOUG-Help: Verizon Broadband card

at 03:43 PM, "Mark Abramowitz" said:

The last Verizon Wireless BroadbandAccess flyer I received advertizes
"Download at speeds up to 400-700 kbps - capable of reaching up to 2
Mbps!" My PC 5220 card of the same subtype as Mark's was initiated with
the included Windows CD and then manually updated via Verizon's software.
Initially, slower speeds than advertized with subsequent dropouts which
became progressively worse under Windows XP on my ThinkPad T42. Verizon
Wireless Tech Support said download and then upgrade the firmware/software
of the PC 5220 which after subjective testing improved my average
downloads to 400-700kps with my maximum of 1.2 Mbps. Initially at my
office, the PC 5220 could not connect - with the upgrade sometimes
connection was possible. The PC 5220 will still not connect at my
family's home in Valencia which apparently is in a almost dead zone for
cell phone by T-Mobile, Cingular, Verizon and Nextel. Bottomline - I
should not have assumed that the included software worked as advertized.

Even with Mark's and Steven's help, I was not able to get the PC 5220 to
function under eComStation aka OS/2 on my T42. But I did not fully try on
my part. The PC 5220 served its function well and completed under Windows
XP but since my needs have changed and I no longer need it, I have
terminated my contract with Verizon Wireless.

If someone wants this card, I will be happy to give someone it but that
individual will have to donate $80 to PetSmart Charities located at
http://www.petsmart.com/charities . You pay shipping and you get the
tax deduction. Note this card does work under OS/2 - we tried on Mark's
working ThinkPad. Limited time offer - no refunds.

Regards.

Larry
