I agree with your statements about eCS being a clearly better option than
IBM's complete lack of support, but with eCS it is still mostly unofficial
support. Still the updates like Lucide, ACPI and bootable JFS keep OS/2
usable.
As to wireless, as with most things under OS/2, if you are careful in what
you chose you can have success . See my article in VOICE
http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_4.html on the
Intel 2200bg Mini-PCI card and Daniela Engert's article on the Asus WL330g
wireless bridge. The latest GenMac wrapper driver (1.7 but for some
strange reason it isn't available on the netlabs.org public ftp site even
though its been out for a year now) supports a number of wireless cards.
And there is a new version that very few people have that supports even
more. Hopefully the new version is out soon and publicly available.
Also for laptops there are drivers for the Cisco 340/350 PCMCIA cards, the
IBM High Rate PCMCIA wireless card, and a GenPrism driver for PCMCIA cards
using the Intersil Prism2 chipset. These are all the slower 802.11b
wireless standard, but astill popup on eBay and other places. The drivers
for the first two cards are available from ecomstation.com and the
GenPrism driver is available if you ask.
