It could be, but it can also be triggered by software defects.

I believe a trap 0008 is a trap in the error handler. (Correct me >if
I'm wrong, Steven!)

Not quite. It's a trap that occurs when the hardware is attempting to
start an exception handler. Let's say the trap gate descriptor for the
initial exception is borked. This will result in a trap 8.

Can't hurt.

A solution for the fast display is to use alt-f4? and single step the
statements, although it's likely some SCSI related driver that has
problems.

Another is a trap dump partition. For about 1% of the average, available
disk space you can give the kernel someplace permanent to write the trap
screens. The trap dump files contain more than a little useful
troubleshooting info. For example, in the case of the trap8, you can find
out what the initial trap was and why it was triggered. It's also trivial
to list the loaded drivers so it is possible to figure out which one was
the last one loaded.

Regards,

Steven
