The message about corrupted partition refers to C: which contains eCS 1.2
that crashed over one year ago shortly after I purchased the PC. My working
eCS 1.2R is on D: partition. I had assumed that the utility diskettes
start by
trying to check on the C: partition first, send the "corrupted" message and
stop.

When I use LVM from the D: partition it in my opinion checks the D;
partition
first, hence the difference. When I get back from vacation (I am leaving
tomorrow)
in September, I will look into this problem again as time allows.
