Subject: SCOUG-Help: Tricky disk

So, I have a comparatively recent (not quite new) hard disk that has been
behaving badly. It was the second drive in a machine that wouldn't let the
machine boot in that it would hang during CONFIG.SYS processing. I brought it
into another machine as the second disk to test it out. The BIOS of the
machine would recognize it and auto-configure CHS values for it but that's
about it. No drive letter would appear in the "Drives" folder and it would not
appear in the "Volume and Installation Manager" as an available disk.

I took a look at it in DFSee and this is what it displayed:

" L-Geo Disk 2 Cyl : 512 H: 12 S:32 Bps:512 Size : 0x00030000 = 96.0
MiB
DUMMY, disk 2 seems reserved with no media present (USB/PCCARD etc)"

which is clearly not right since it is a 40GB drive jumper limited to 32GB. No
other operation on the disk is permitted since it seems to be behaving as if it
is not there. Is the drive a goner? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

-Rocky
