Basically. If you look at a connector, the female side is always spring
loaded in some way or is a sufficiently snug fit to keep most of the air
out. Repeated insertions and removals will eventually result in a loose
fit. Once that happens the connections oxidize faster and you end with
high resistance and poor performance.
